To start the day off I had the continental breakfast offered by my hotel. It consisted of eating pita bread, eggs, and hot dog bits while listening to the Arabic pop music that blared in the eating room. After breakfast, my group took cabs to get to the SIT headquarters for orientation. The ride through the city was definitely one that had me looking out my window continuously.
The construction in Amman is overwhelming as there seem to be new buildings being built everywhere in line with the city’s bustling activity. Even with bustling activity seeing symbols of Jordan’s more conservative, less Westernized character is still quite possible as I have seen sheep and goat herders in the wealthier western part of Amman.
The rest of day and night included getting acclimated to this city full of both modernity and antiquity. Buying my cell phone, I was stunned by the sheer number of cell phone shops in the city as there seems to be one or two on every street. My dinner, just like my lunch, was amazing, and I finished the night off smoking hookah outside on a gorgeous summer night. I can’t wait for tomorrow!
